편미분 관계식

열역학에서 z의 전미분이

exact이면 상태량(property) 이고 변화량은  으로 표기한다

inexact이면 경로함수(path function) 이고 변화량은으로 표기한다. [1] (δQ, δW, δSgen 등이 이에 해당) 

every property is exact. The differentials of nonproperties such as work and heat are inexact. [2]

An inexact differential or imperfect differential is a specific type of differential used in thermodynamics to express the path dependence of a particular differential. [3]
